We had breakfast here and it was fantastic. I had the Baja omelet, onions, jalapeños, jack cheese and some amazing home fries. My wife had the amazing French toast. She said she thought she was at the Greenbriar when they served it. Not much seating inside, but outside front deck and picnic tables are available. Don't let the decor fool you. This brightly colored, little breakfast place is in a tie for my number one breakfast place in the U.S. The other one is in Carmel, California. We will return, again and again.

Awesome food! Biscuits and gravy were out of this world! Delicious and very "home" like... The arts big breakfast was huge and very filling. Service was awesome very attentive and fast, super friendly! Will definitely be coming back everybody should go!

First time here and we enjoyed it. Biscuits and sausage are home made and delicious. Grits with cheese were yummy too. Perfect place to grab breakfast before heading north. We got a lot of food and the price was reasonable. If I was staying in kitty hawk would definitely come back here for lunch or dinner or drinks. Rooftop deck looks great.

Best Breakfast in OBX! Had one of the omlettes on the menu (Southwest, or something like that) Small place so please be kind if the food takes a little longer than expected. You're right on the beach, so do everyone a favor and RELAX!

OMG the breakfasts are incredible. Now, along with, the BEST burger EVER and the most AMAZINGLY superb cheesesteak, I can say breakfast is TOPS also. People are great. Service is attentive & food is uh, well, did you just read my post...... It's now our favorite place at the OBX. Thanks Art's Place. Keep it up!!!

Breakfast food was excellent! Atmosphere is very home-y. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting good comfort food and big portions. Love the back story of the place and can't wait to go back and try their famous burgers for lunch.

Awesome spot! Great vibe. Awesome staff. And the blue cheese burger is one of the best burgers I have ever had!

Divey and delicious! This is a small diner/bar near the beach. We went for breakfast, and weren't disappointed. Good, fresh food, efficient service, reasonably priced. Kudos to Art's! I hope to return on my next visit to the OBX!

This local treasure is always our 1st stop when we come into the OBX. Great burgers as everyone agrees. Friendly staff is always ready to great you with a cold beer and a smile. Come chat with the surfers, local contractors, family vacationers. You'll love it!

Nope......nah uh! Art's place is being given 2 stars because of the awesome service:-) The staff was friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about OBX. The coffee was decent. The food was just, eh. Not impressive whatsoever. Breakfast plate was served with the strangest home fries. Super thankful for the staff. Nice people. Still never returning.

This was our first breakfast stop on this OBX trip. I will tell you the place is very small and seating is limited inside so break up any large parties that you might have. Also parking is limited so car pool if you can or walk. The customer service was extremely friendly and made you feel at home A+++++ I chose the biscuits and gravy with eggs for breakfast. I will tell you the sausage gravy was a little to salty for my taste. I was hoping for a simple white saw mill country gravy that is actually very easy to make!!!! the biscuits were very tasty however My wife had eggs and bacon with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were too greasy and too much season salt. These also needed to be cooked a little longer This is also your typical beach decor inside and out so nothing fancy and is very casual

This is a great little local spot for breakfast, burger or cocktail. The food is fresh and good. The service is very friendly. It may fill up quick and you may find that they've run out of items, but that is a good sign since you know the food is moving through. Definitely give it a try the next time you're driving down the beach for a bite to eat. They are right across the street from the ocean and even have a nice rooftop deck to enjoy a beach view! Great little place.

  • Taryn J.

Definitely the best burger in town! Juicy burger and lots of toppings. The fries are fresh. The kids loved the hot dogs. The whole place is painted in murals. I would have given this 5 stars if it weren't for the outside bar area that had not been cleaned when we went to sit to eat. My husband didn't care, saying it was part of the type of small local bar...anyhow, I would definitely make an effort to visit this place again and again. Quintessential beach burger joint that is delicious!

  • Esther H.

Service was slow as it seems everyone showed up at once for breakfast, but the friendly service, excellent food and reasonable prices almost made up for the long wait. We would certainly consider coming back, though we may try to time it better.

Looking for a "locals" place? Here it is. Breakfast: amazing. HUGE egg and meat sandwiches. Arts Big Breakfast will feed two and make you drool. Everything is so flavorful! Lunch: voted in the top five places for a burger in the entire state. They live up to the title. They have a variety of burger choices and they're all delicious and large. I hate writing this review because I want this place to be all my own, but I've got to share the wealth. COME HERE!!

Great service! Great food! Loved this hole-in-the-wall. Breakfast with an ocean view!

Was looking for a spot to get something good to eat on short notice and came across this gem. Highly recommend this restaurant. Simple food done very well. Fun environment. Lots of beers. Go here next time you plan to eat out.

A big group of us wanted to stop at High Cotton for lunch before we left town but it was closed so we decided to try this place instead, which we've seen for years but never gone in. Cool atmosphere but they must've been having an off day when we came. Tried to order like 3 different things and they told us they didn't have it, or didn't make it during this season, or it was too late to serve it (why would things be on the menu that you're not serving this season, and shouldn't the menu say what time breakfast or lunch or whatever ends if it does?). I got chicken quesadillas and they were the worst I've ever had. Might try them again one more time just in case we got them on an off day because it was crowded and it seemed lots of locals were in so it has to be decent if that's the case...will update in the future!

Had breakfast and dinner here today... Very good breakfast sausage and potato's were very good. Wife had French toast and loved it. She went home and I went back for a burger and a couple PBR's. Huge burger and home cut fry's. This a great locals place.

Been going to the area for years but found this recently. Small, local clientele and nothing fancy. The food is very tasty and high quality. Had a burger it was hand formed patty with fresh toppings. Kids food was also good. Good place to go for a reasonably priced meal at a spot not jammed with tourists.

  • M F.

Had four different versions of their cheeseburgers. BBQ, Art's Bleu, Art's Club, and the regular Art's Special. I can say they serve more burger for the money, the fries are fresh and outstanding, the atmosphere is local, and it's across the road; literally a stones throw from the ocean... My wife, my two kids (12 and 8) and I were complementing the food all the way back to Manteo. Well worth every penny, and you won't spend that many.

Awesome burgers. Cheap beer. Prices aren't bad. Nice little beach bar and restaurant.

My friend and I went here because the house we rented was super close and we heard they made really great burgers. It was a lovely night so we sat on the front porch and it had a nice view of the ocean. The burger was amazing. Really juicy and the fries were fresh and crispy. Best burger and fries I've had in a long time and the price was really low! The only downfall to this place was the crowd. There are mostly locals there to drink and play corn hole. As soon as we sat down, an older local gentleman started telling us dirty jokes. A little odd, but whatever. Then after we got our burgers, the man comes back over to us and puts both arms around us and asked what we thought of the fries. He then proceeds to eat fries off my plate without asking!!! It gets better... He asks how the honey mustard tastes, dips a fry in it, takes a bite, then dips again!! Guess I'm not eating any more of that... This place has great burgers, but get it to go, or eat inside at a table where it's a bit more mellow.

They have the best burger that I have ever eatten! I'm drooling just thinking about it. haha!

  • Mike P.

I love this place. Whenever I come to Kitty Hawk I always stop at Art's for lunch. Their burgers are some of the best I have ever had, and I have had millions. The cozy little local hangout is a must if you are within 50 miles. I drive 85 miles for this burger!

    (5)
  • Phillip S.

We went here because it was so well rated everywhere. I don't get it... The entire restraint can seat 20 people but it feels pretty crowded with only 10 people. There is a bar but nothing on draft. The beer they do have is limited and very unexciting (Miller, Budweiser, Corona). They had live music inside when we went but with the place being so small even the band warming up was way too loud. This place seems more of a local's hangout then an actual bar/restaurant. Would not recommend.

  • Peter C.

Have been a big fan of Art's for years. I dream of the cheeseburgers and fries when away from OBX. I always try to time it so I don't have to wait for a table but I like eating at the bar too, get to see the workings of a small joint. We literally have to control our impulses to eat there everyday. My wife is scared of the locals out front playing cornhole in the front parking spaces. (they'll come in and ask you to back up your car or move it) but as long as she is with someone else she is raring to go.

  • MARIA G.

Husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger and I got the Philly Cheese Steak. His fries were cold but the burger was good size for the price. I got jipped and my Philly was served on a hotdog bun. Each was under $10 but only the burger was worth it.

The reviews speak for themselves. Just returned from there. Had the Bacon Cheese burger with lettuce tomato and onion. Cooked perfect. Very juicy. Fries were like pepper fries cooked great also. This will be a stop for me every time now. A small place but worth the wait if needed. They also have PBR cans daily for $1.50. Service was excellent.

Came here after labor day when the OBX crowds dissipate, plus it was a rainy day. So no surprise the place was near-empty. Had a bacon cheeseburger and it was so ridiculously good. Drooling at the thought. They don't ask how you want it cooked and it comes out well done. I normally go for medium but this was so delicious. The fries were lukewarm but tasty. Tasted like they were seasoned with cracked pepper. Perfect place if you just want an ice cold beer (only bottled but made no difference to me) and a burger, without overpaying. Geared to the low-maintenance types. Knocked off a star because the place itself was kind of dingy so one hopes it passes all health codes/inspections. I almost don't care though. Will definitely be back.

Best burger in town, maybe in the whole state. I was honestly blown away, the meat was cooked all the way through but juicy and tender, and had the most amazing flavor. My husband had the club burger, I had the bacon cheeseburger - we both said we would come back again for sure!

We were so excited to try this place as the reviews were great. We had a group of 6 and a baby- we did know ahead of time that this place is tiny but being off season and late weekday morning we figured we would try it. We walk there and it was completely full. We didn't mind waiting so we ask someone working inside what the situation was.... They told us that we were welcome to sit at the tables outside. Ok.... It was cool, windy, and we had a baby so that wasn't going to work. We decided to wait for tables to open. About 25 mins later we see people coming out so we go in to sit. We are told that there is a line to order THEN sit down. We were never told this when we asked. We had to of course leave because we were starving and had walked there. So very disappointing. Also- if you aren't a local and you're visiting, which, let's face it most of us are! This place will look at you like an alien for even attempting to eat there! Several of us got the ....uh, excuse me- look when peeking in at tables. Seems that they would actually cater to tourist since that is a pretty big chunk of revenue!!

wow! what a little diamond in the ruff! we loved this place! trying to avoid the saturdau morning traffic, this was found on a little back road and we stopped to eat breakfast. what a fantastic meal! we sat right away and ordered. The food came out super fast and was really delicious. simple, but delicious. I had the french toast, for only $5 you get a great portion. my husband and in-laws got omelets, grits and home fries which they all loved!! highly recommend this little place! they know where its at!

Delicious local joint that serves good burgers and cold beers. Great place to stop for lunch on a hot beach day. This place definitely caters to locals, but we enjoyed our food. The pulled pork sandwich had just the right amount of sauce. One negative that I noticed was that the chef missed rare by a mile when cooking 2 of the burgers at our table. The burgers were juicy and the fries are fresh. I'll be coming back here during future visits to OBX.

I read about Art's Place before we arrived as I was doing Yelp research for bars I could walk to from my pad on the beach. We arrived into the area on Saturday which is what everyone does so traffic is fucked. We literally sat in traffic for 2 hours creeping 2 inches every 20 minutes. Heads up; if you are going to the OBX and you have a Saturday check in like the other 9 million people get across that bridge by 9 am on move in day... Anywho back to Art's. We get to this parking lot behind some random beach front store to meet other family members who have also been in stuck traffic..we were last to arrive and most of them were at the beach with their kids. We have 5 hours to wait to check into our house. Shoot me. It start to rain. Hard. Everyone is running off the beach as the thunder starts. Then I see Art's!!!!!!!!! I was like omg. My family members go to their cars, I go to Art's, duh. The bar has about 8 seats, and I did not love the small bar stools but this place is tiny man. First thing I notice; some dude is cooking some huge ass burgers on the grill right behind the bar/counter. The second thing I see; $1.50 PBR's. Long story short my family members get bored and crashed my Art's experience. All 18 of them, kids in tow. Grumpy, crying kids. In my bar. The staff was beyond patient with our group, I told her we would tip the shit out of her and we did. The burgers were the bomb. And cheap. And huge. I heart the OBX.

Great place to stop for breakfast, off of the main road (and away from traffic and crowds). Only downside is this place has like 4 four top tables. There's some counter space inside and out as well. Wouldn't be ideal for large parties, although my party of 6 made it work at a table. Portions are huge. Everybody got something different and there were no complaints on food. Biscuits made from scratch and were amazing. Coffee was hot and refilled as needed. What more can you ask for?

This tiny hole in the wall has delicious breakfast (especially potatoes!), huge portions, low prices. Go, go, go!

  • Dave S.

Great local joint with a ton of history. Small place, but the breakfasts were wonderful and the service is too. Extremely friendly people, great hash browns and grits, and the prices are really reasonable. Do yourself a favor and stay away from all the tourist traps along the highway. When the line is around the building at Stack 'em High, head over to Art's instead. You won't be sorry.

This place is great for burgers and fries. I had a really delicious black bean burger and my husband a cheeseburger. First time there and would come back. Nothing fancy but the locals also seem to enjoy it.

Loved this place! Everything was great...food, service, and atmosphere! We especially enjoyed the incredibly delicious wings and burgers! The bar tender/waiter provided the best service we had while on vacation! Everyone in our group loved this place! We will definitely be returning there!! ...Hoping to see Dude again! :-)

I had high hopes for Art's Place and a faint memory of riding my bike there once for breakfast in middle school without permission and it being great, but perhaps what tasted great was breaking rules and not getting caught. My grandfather was born and raised on Roanoke Island. Growing up I spent every summer in the Outer Banks walking to Winks (the independently owned and run beach grocery store next door) and seeing Art's Place. Back then Art was running place (he recently passed in 2010) and he had a crazy old grumpy green parrot in a cage on the porch. As a kid I would walk past and hear mean taunts from this parrot!! He was seriously a character and sadly I am pretty sure people fed it cigarettes which could have attributed to his crotchedy-ness and eventual untimely death. I recently visited Art's Place yearning for a great breakfast sandwich and to sit outside and look at the ocean. What I found were sky high prices and a dive bar, no parrot and bad biscuits. My biscuit was a day old and crumbled completely when I picked it up. The ratio of cheese to egg in my bacon egg and cheese was Cheese = 2, Egg = 1, Bacon = 0.5. Biscuit = FAIL. This Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuit would have cost 2 bucks at a fast food drive through and tasted much better. A sucker I paid $6 bucks for mine plus tip! OJ was from concentrate and came chock full of ice. Coffee was weak. Love'd the music though but it was of a certain burnout surfer genre for first thing in the morning... Pink Floyd's The Wall, The Eagle's Hotel California, Eric Clapton's Cocaine, Tom Petty's Into the Great Wide Open... At 10 am after having four bloody mary's I saw a guy stumble out the front door graze the deck post, rev his tires in the sand going nowhere and eventually swing out into the road so far that he was in the on coming traffic for 100 yards as he drove off. I can see why my grandfather told me to never ever come here. I miss that bird though. youtube.com/watch?v=YRyv…

I am responding to the previous poster...Tammy owns the bar and has for a bit. As far as you being disappointed...Sorry you felt that way! When we were down on the OBX we lived at Art's the hole week in fact, we got Married there that week and I came in after the ceremony in my gown and my Husband in his suit...Tammy & the gang including her son were the sweetest, coolest people! The burgers are great and everyone is totally friendly...I can't wait til we go back in September. Tammy has limited hours depending on the time of year and what she wants to do! I enjoyed sitting and talking to her and everyone including the locals every evening and sitting on that porch too...In fact, our rental this year is within walking distance instead of in Duck so we can enjoy our time there and at Ocean Boulevard.....65 more days until I am "HOME"!

  • Beach L.

Great burger and really friendly, fun staff. Glad I had a few beers before going though because otherwise the flies EVERYWHERE (crawling all over the glasses counter etc) would have been too much to handle. Prob not much they can do about it being right on beach or something and ppl coming in and out, but it was kind of gross. Still liked and ate the food though! Just reporting the facts.

Not sure what has happened to Art's Place but the place has become so uneven that it is no longer the same. Would be nice if someone could rescue it. The wife and I went to get breakfast at 8 am one day and they were closed. Finally, at 8:10 was informed by someone that it'd be another 5 minutes as the crew the night before had not cleaned up. But no one appeared to be cleaning up. Just killing flies. A slew of people (not customers) went in and out but it appeared that they didn't have any help or cooks. Sat on the porch until 8:45 and finally left. No one ever came back out and said anything to us. Had lunch with the kids earlier in the week and the burger was ok, the roll stale. Fries were good. Flies everywhere. In fact, at the end of the summer of 2010 we noticed a change in the infamous burger. It went from fabulous to just acceptable. In the past I could count on a very good meal at Art's but not anymore. However, the waitresses are always pleasent and helpful. Unfortunately, this has fallen off my favorites list and I will no longer spend what amounted to hundreds of dollars every summer.

My mom, dad, husband, baby and myself all went here tonight, and it was wonderful! Very small inside, 4 tables, and a bar, but also a rooftop terrace, and a front porch. The staff was super friendly, and the cook stopped several times to come out and talk to my son! We let him crawl around, and all the "locals" said hi to him, and were super nice. The food service was fast, and they constantly ask if we needed anything. The burgers were delicious, and the fries handmade, and yummy! We would definitely go back, and the prices were awesome to boot!

Art's place use to be really something. I have been aware of it since back around 1995 when Art owned and ran it. I never ate there much because it was so smokey inside you just stank when you left. There was a nasty fire around 2003 that really changed the place, but they rebuilt and saved the old grill. The new place was soon sold and Art hung around day to day but no longer ran it and his health finally got him and he passed around 2009 or 10. Thank God they banned smoking in restaurants! I went back to try the place remembering the huge Art's burger of the past, but alas it has gone and they have a smaller one now. It still is way under cooked, as was the old one, so unless you want the risk of being on the toilet all day, ask for extra extra well done. The burger is good, fries greasy so I often would phone in my order for a burger - no fries. It will take a good 30 min to be ready which is pretty slow. 80% of the time when I went to pick it up they had added fries and of course charged me for them. It's worth a try but it is expensive for what you get. Breakfast is very expensive for breakfast. Limited parking bu the place is small so maybe not a big problem.

Local food for locals!! We love this place. Just a few tables, with eating at the bar as well. Good breakfast. Atmosphere is better than the food but an excellent way to people watch the local folks!

"Locals welcomed, tourists tolerated". This sums up the vibe at this small diner on the beach in Kitty Hawk. A long-time locals hangout, the mood is very casual and friendly. There is a small porch in front that overlooks the road right next to the beach, and about seven tables and a small bar inside. When crowded it can take a while to get your food, but there is always good conversation to keep you busy while you wait. All the breakfast foods are quite good - nice fluffy pancakes and biscuits, great eggs and excellent grits. For lunch, we usually get the burgers and fries, while our daughter is a big fan of the hot dog. While we have never been later in the day, there is a happy hour that includes special prices on beers and oysters. Nothing fancy, but good solid food and a great place to check out the local scene.

A local favorite where you can see state & local politicians at the next table. And there are so few tables! Small, friendly and now non-smoking! Good American food, well prepared and served with great hospitality. I am always comfortable and love their onion rings! Hard to get in during the season but a treat most of the year.

I come here when I'm in the OBX, although my most recent visit was in 2007. French toast was good and I was not a big fan of the pancakes. The eponymous owner Art (who I heard died in 2010) was a super-nice guy. I plan on returning here next time I come to the OBX.

This is a little spot but it looks like it can churn out some food and drink. Went here on a Saturday morning to grab breakfast and some drinks (it was my buddy's bachelor party weekend) and it was already crowded. Had to sit at the bar but the service was quick and friendly and the food was pretty good. They have a full bar so I dove right into drinking Hurricanes, which I believe is their claim to fame. Had a few of those and they definitely "woke" me up. Definitely enjoyed my visit there but it's a little tight. I'd recommend it, though, since the place seems pretty lively and the drinks are plentiful.

If you are craving a great, greasy burger, this is the place to go! It is an intimate restaurant with not too much seating, but there are outdoor picnic tables and roof seating. They have a great beer selection and a very kind waitstaff. You can pass the time away playing cornhole in the front while you are waiting for your food. We will be back many times.

We had an awesome experience at Arts. We had dinner and then breakfast there the next morning. The food was excellent, the service was wonderful, and the dog, Dude, was very loving. Def. a great place to eat and enjoy the cool atmosphere! You should order the wings! My brother-in -law said "these wings are f***** amazing!"

What an outstanding experience we had here. My wife had the philly cheese steak. She didn't want fries so they subbed tomatoe slices for her. Excellent customer service! She loved her sandwich. I started off with the New England clam chowder. We travel often on Cape Cod. This chowder would win awards on the cape! It was that good. I also had the bacon cheeseburger with fries. Greasy, flavorful burger with real, seasoned fries. Waiter was very friendly, very personable. All in all a great experience!

8pm, went to bluemoon, 1.5hr wait. soft haired hostess recommended this place. rolled up, people playing cornhole outside. walked inside, clean well-lighted place. long haired hostess-bartender-waiter-busboy slim doogan* was on point: prompt seating, friendly, eagle eye kept our water glasses filled. baha burger: YUM. got that cholula hot sauce on top. actual pineapple chunks. juicy pink center of delicious burger patty. asked for burger cut in half, served on two baskets! really hit the spot. mango salsa actual mango and tomatoes, just enough spice, crunchy chips. $18 for the whole shebang. would come back to try all the other tasty foods. *not his actual name chalk hap(py).

Took a trip to the outer banks to explore and visit attractions. Around noon we made a pit stop at "Art's Place" which at first glance looks like a day care. Parking lot was full, we took the last spot! Restaurant was busy and seemed a little unorganized, didn't get greeted or seated right away. Had to order from inside, even though we were sitting outside. Surprisingly the food didn't take too long to leave the kitchen and make its way to our table. Just like every time before that I tried a new place, I was worried that the food wouldn't satisfy my palate. All my worries were gone when I took my first bight into the Western burger...it was absolutely delicious! Juicy and flavorful, The bacon was cooked just right to give it that extra kick. All the ingredients were right. The onion rings and French fries were fried to perfection! Just the right amount of crispy and seasoning! This restaurant makes burgers the way all burgers should be made. I'd have to say "Arts Place" Western Burger beats any burger I've had from Five Guys. Not to mention the price was very reasonable 8.99 for burger and fries! And the portions are very pleasing to any hungry man or woman. I left "Arts Place" with a full stomach and a satisfied palate. I have no reason to go back to the outer banks, except to try another burger from "Arts Place!"

I came here twice during my visit in the Outer Banks. the first time I went here I just sat on their tiny little balcony up top. This place isn't very big but the outside of the building is vibrant and eye catching. I went at night, had a few beers, and enjoyed the ocean. The place lights up at night. There was a small band performing and they were rocking it! A piano, an upright bass, and an electric guitar. Awesome. They have bags (or cornhole...whatever you want to call it) outside and it seems to be a place for locals. The second time I went was for lunch. They're affordable for sure. I had the Art's signature burger with provolone and the works. My goodness. I have waited 4 hours to get a seat at Kuma's Corner in Chicago and that burger didn't compare to Art's. It was beautifully seasoned and absolutely delish. Seriously it was amazing. I ate it all. All of it. And it was a huge hand crushed awesome burger. I didn't have their wings but I noticed they've got them fresh and they're huge. Full wings. I definitely want to try them next time. The decor is nice, small, and comforting. The walls are lined with memories and photos of Arts history. Very quaint. The service is great, very attentive. It's just a laid back chill place to get good food.

Stopped at Art's Place on the way home from Outer Banks last weekend because we saw you could bring your dog, it was a great find!! I got the veggie burger and it had so much flavor, my boyfriend got the Arts burger and he really enjoyed his. They even brought out a water just for our pup. It has a laid back feel to it.

Tried this place based on yelp and because I'm always seeking out hidden treasures and this place delivered. It takes local dive to a whole new level, beachy, friendly servers, fast service and good food. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and it was delicious, tasty and moist and not processed at all. My husband has the shrimp and it was fresh. Kids lives their burgers, too. I'm all for local flavor, but the tables could have been a little cleaner and the place itself was s little messy looking. The food and atmosphere were great, though.

Love the Western Burger. Delicious, juicy, real-thick bacon, and packed with flavor. I'd rate it as one of the top five burgers I've ever had. With that aside, I was not impressed with the other aspects of my visit. My party and I opted to sit on the outdoor deck (2nd floor). It was not the cleanest eating area--there were cigarette butts on the floor, the flooring was all tattered up, and it looked like it had not been wiped down. However, the view of the ocean and the salty breeze somewhat made it all better. Once our food was delivered to our seating area, we requested an extra plate to share the burger. The server rudely responded, "We don't service this area, but you can go downstairs and get it yourself." If you brought the food to where we were sitting, then what difference does it make to bring an extra basket or plate? I will gladly come back for the food, but will have it to-go next time.

Small mom and pop style beach bar/restaurant. This place is on the list for top burger in outer banks for a reason! Service was prompt and friendly. 3 of us all had a burger and fries and 3 sweet teas and one person got a side salad and the total was about $40 bucks.

Our family enjoyed lunch here, but it didn't quite meet expectations from other reviews. Burgers were good, but not great. Handmade, but very flat and thoroughly cooked. Not a lot of meat flavor, but enough I guess. Fries were ok not great. Inside was packed, eating elsewhere means you get food delivered, that's all. Sort of like counter service. Upstairs deck looks like fun, but it is small. Out front the locals were smoking it up with the PBR. So we ate out back which was ok but not fab. Craft beers recommended by bartender were great.

Service was great for how few people work there, not a bad thing. Quaint, charming, obviously a local gem. You feel like you're with friends here. Best burger I've ever had at the banks, and the chili was the best chili I've ever had. Onion rings were on point, non-busy location (off the main road). This place also serves breakfast which I'm now dying to try. You want a burger? Come here.

Good food! Our party of six tried the pancakes, western omelette, Greek omelette, scrambled eggs with grits, biscuit with gravy, and half order of french toast. Servings were plentiful and everything was delicious. It's a small place and indoor seating is limited but there's lots of outdoor seating. We ate here on a weekday, post Labor Day. Someone mentioned that waits are long on the weekend, so if you can come early or non weekends, you can save having to wait for your food.

Very good. Small place. Lots of outdoor seating. For the locals. Great local joint. Didn't feel very welcomed from the other patrons but the server and bar tender were nice. I was kind of confused when people would walk in buy a beer and leave to go back to the beach.

Came down to stay in Kitty Hawk for the week and am writing this from our third time here this week. Awesome food for breakfast and lunch, great burgers. Would highly recommend you give it a visit! This place can do no wrong.

How is it that I lived in Kill Devil Hills for over 20 years and still have been back and forth regularly for almost another 10 and never made it into Art's Place?!? Dad's response: Traffic. Tourists. Etc. So true. If you're from the Outer Banks, you have to make lots of sacrifices about what you do based upon the invasion from the tourists. Still. Art's Place is open year round! In response to that Mom and Dad just say that we never made it up to that end of the beach as much to eat. Another thing people from out of town might not understand... Plus, there were 5 of us and it's hard to go somewhere small with 3 kids. All is well though. This past Saturday I finally had lunch at Art's Place. Dad's become quite a fan over the past couple of years now that he's been living in Kitty Hawk. That and they have an open mic night on Wednesdays and he loves playing acoustic sets to the intimate crowd there. Art's Place has been around for over 30 years. Since 2008, it's been in the hands of Tammy and her family, also long-time residents of the Banks. Tammy was behind the counter washing dishes and helping out with things while her daughter Laura roamed around the restaurant taking orders and tending to customers' needs. It's a local spot. For the tourists who "don't get it," the intimacy, longevity, and personal care that go into keeping this spot open year around are what make it so special. Most places that stay open year around have really got to deliver something strong and something unique. Art's Place is one of those dives that's been on the beach road and lasted despite storm after storm. Art's Place gets 5 stars simply because it is a true Outer Banks survivor -- storms, tourist seasons, and staying open year after year. Not only that, it's incredibly affordable and good. When we ventured in, it was pretty crowded. The upstairs and side decks are not full service, but you will get some attention there. There is a small front deck and by small, I mean one row of stools with a narrow place to set your food. The dining room is tiny and the bar directly overlooks Tammy washing dishes and the two cooks on the grill from prep to grilling. The two servers ran around minding everything else going on. Local art hangs on the walls, including a surf board suspended from the ceiling near the front windows. Dad goes there for the burgers so I followed his lead and had a Bacon Cheeseburger, but subbed cheddar for American. All fries are hand-cut. The sandwiches/burgers come in a basket with the fries. There are fountain sodas and some basic beer and wine, but nothing fancy so don't fuss. Sure, I love my wine, but Art's Place isn't meant to host Napa Valley taste desires. We did have to wait a little bit for our food, but when it came out, it was really good. And I'm not a big French Fry person. But these were good and I even watched the cook cutting them since they ran out mid-lunch! I tried to come back Sunday morning with Mom for breakfast, but we were too late. They serve breakfast everyday until 11am and the parking lot stays packed so you have to be early and patient. I'd say my only major complaint is the lack of parking because I'm used to waiting at the beach. Art's Place, thanks for the fine introduction. Definitely an establishment I'm proud to see on my hometown glory.

Continues to be a hidden gem for breakfast. Great food. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Only four stars, instead of five for cleanliness. But I love having breakfast here with my kids.

Thank you Yelp for helping us find this place!!! Best place for breakfast!! I highly recommend sitting upstairs to eat. It is a little deck That seats about 5-6 people at a built in bar. You have to order inside but the servers will bring your food up to you. I had 2 fried eggs over light with the country ham, home fries with peppers and onions and rye toast. Hubby had sausage gravy and biscuits and 2 fried eggs. Everything was excellent. We both said the sausage gravy and biscuits were the best we ever tasted! When you sit upstairs, your view is the ocean! It can be hot as there is no shade up there so wear your sunscreen but don't miss this view! It's not real big inside if you do decide to eat indoors. They also have lunch and dinner choices but we didn't try any of that. People were friendly. Definitely a locals favorite and I could see why! Don't miss this place when you are in OBX!!

Sketchy & twisted just the way it should be unlike big chain restaurants. Wendy's McDonald's Five Guys etc! This beachy eatery rocks the best burger for the dollar on the OBX $7.75 plus $1.00 for cheese. Run it through the garden or underbrush free of charge along w/fries that r fresh cut and tasty! PS: Very busy so if you choose to eat outside, order 20 minutes in advance & just carry it up to the rooftop yourself! The help is nice but understandably to busy for small talk! Enjoy

Went to OBX on labor day with plans of arts place on our mind for our dinner so i called just to be sure , happy to say they were open ! 3 of us stopped in to an already packed place w only one table open but for parties of 5 or more thought about going outside but no outside service . Ended up sharing a table w a nice couple . Of course we started w wings ! Still as good as first time even my daughter liked them n she isnt a fan of hotness! We both got swiss n mushroom burgers my friend built her own & the couple got 5alarm burger n baha burger which is topped w pineapple n spinache w a balsamic reduction , i will be trying that one next time Arts didnt dissapoint . service was great n prompt . Place was packed they def didnt need a jazz band to pull in the crowd this place is off the chain when it come to pub grub .Again highly reccomend the burgers they are a half pound of juicy goodness!!!! Thanx Arts for the full belly

5 stars for food and service - nothing fancy, for sure but a great little spot that has kept its personality for decades. Art's has been recognized for years as a go to stop for burgers - perhaps lesser known is their breakfasts are among the best on the OBX

Stopped in to start our vacation off with some Bloody Mary's and good breakfast. Even though we're tourists, they treated us just fine ;-) the food was delicious, service was quick, and everything was pretty fairly priced. I'd definitely come back again for their breakfast and would like to try their lunch. The lunch menu looked pretty good.

Got a burger there and the grease was pouring off it. IT WAS PERFECT! Amazing good food and the staff was super friendly. You want a VERY small place to try you never have in OBX this needs to be on the top of your list. It is a regular for sure.

Went back to arts place on our way out, this time we went for lunch and had the grilled cheese and fries. A good quality grilled cheese and fries were very good. We were there/waiting for our food much longer than I had planned for a lunch on the way out.. husband and I each had a grilled cheese and fries and took a full 30 minutes for the order. But, the 2 cooks were working feverishly to keep up with the orders from a full house and accommodating to go orders - you can see them cook while in the dining room. And the waitress apologized for the wait even though we never mentioned it. We would still go back, but try to plan to come off rush hours. I will def. go back for the delicious breakfast. It's a tiny place so I hate to rave about it and make it even more crowded.. But I want to be sure it lasts since The Pit Boardriders Grill went out of business.

Crab cake sandwich was amazing, great flavor and no filling texture. Local and fresh ingredients, a serious must try. Full bar and great service. Decor is as unique as the food. Don't miss this place friends!

We stopped here on a recent, late Sunday afternoon mainly because the place had the same first name as mine ( I know weak reason, but we all need to try places that have our names in them). When we walked in, it felt very comfortable from the beginning. The locals, who were very friendly & fun, were trying to get in a game of corn hole but with the periodic outbursts of rain coming it was stop and go for them. Everyone was having a fine time relaxing and enjoying the good music coming out of the great sound system on the front deck. It is a smaller place as other yelpers' have commented, but we preferred to look at it as an intimate, fun place where you can just chill and enjoy yourself. Didn't get an opportunity to eat, but the food was reasonably priced, looked great and was plentiful....will definitely try the burger next time, it looked excellent! A special shout out to Chris behind the bar!!---he was right on point with the drinks, AND went above and beyond with contacting us about finding my cellphone on the deck outside (fell out of my pocket). He contacted us after we left via my girlfriend's cellphone and let us know he had it. His efforts solidified my feeling that this is such a cool place and worth a visit every time we are in the Outer Banks! Visit it yourselves, come in and chill, enjoy yourself and I bet you will come to appreciate what a great, unique place Art's is....

I was so happy they survived Sandy. I have been coming here for 10+ years and it keeps getting better and better. They have been doing nice improvements over the years and it's gone from a gloomy dive and transformed into a bright place to get a tasty burger. We stopped in today (It's so nice to go out and eat around locals rather than tourists) and got a few burgers and a sandwich. The burger was cooked well done as usual but still juicy and delicious. The home cut fries were good too.

Mmmm deep fried mushrooms and grilled cheese with bacon. Delish. This is a tiny little place by the beach - I always make a point to stop in each time I visit OBX. Waitresses are friendly, never felt rushed out the door even when it's busy.

I stopped by to see if the Biscuits & Gravy were as claimed to be. First appearance is scary with the whole tie dye colors going on. The place is small and I stopped by during the week it wasn't crowded but still people coming and going. So of course I order the Biscuits & Gravy, with 2 eggs over easy. I have to admit it was delicious and yes I would recommend this place. It sit right off the beach so come early set your tent and chairs up and then walk over and have breakfast. Then you will be ready to lay on the beach.

I guess an odd tradition to have but whenever I leave the Outer Banks, its early in the morning and I always take the Beach Road all the way down to delay the inevitable long drive back home. Arts place is open early, and on the Beach Road, so we always stop in... and its excellent! Definitely a top breakfast spot in the Outer Banks. -Jim
